It is taking a special approach, and with its introduction, quoting is no longer possible without restrictions.

Seit heute ist das Zitieren von Beiträgen auch auf Mastodon möglich. Nur leider hat sich Mastodon nicht an den vorhandenen Umsetzungen im Fediverse orientiert und diese berücksichtigt, sondern das Rad neu erfunden. In deren Folge kommt es nun zu Fehlern!

So lassen sich alle meine Beiträge zitieren und neu teilen. Da Mastodon, die im Fediverse etablierte Zitieren-Funktion ignoriert, sieht es nun so aus, als hätte ich dem Widersprochen. Dahinter steht der Gedanke Macht auszuüben, um den eigenen Standard durchzusetzen. Macht und etwas durchsetzen wollen, ist hier aber fehl am Platz. Es geht nicht einmal darum, ob etwas sinnvoll ist.

@crossgolf_rebel Citing is not 15 years old. Discussions about opt-in is known by all SW developers. No one seemed for agreement.
The concern is real when you look into X how citing is used for bashing and blaming. It’s better to have the opt-in option. All other SW which are supporting citing disregarded this concern.

Another example of missing alignment is how one can format text. There is almost as many variants as there as different SW. Mastodon, Plerona, Misskey (and derivatives), Friendica. All of them go their own way. Result: Your post only looks like you intended when your reader uses a SW with the same mechanism.

When you listen to the discussion from the other side (not Mastodon), it sounds quite different.
And unfortunately, this isn't the first time Eugen has done something like this and abused his ‘market power’.
